Dr. Rafael Lugo earned his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine, Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his general surgical training and residency at Alton Oschner Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lugo is a member of the Harris County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association. He began his practice in general surgery in the Clear Lake area in 1999 and joined Texas Gulf Coast Medical Group in 2002. Dr. Lugo's philosophy of practice is to treat the patient and not the disease. He attempts to provide informed options for his patients. He believes that the physician and patient must form a partnership to work together for good health. Dr. Lugo is the father of three children and resides in the Clear Lake area. In his free time he works as a fitness consultant and enjoys computers and the outdoors plus time with his children. Dr. Lugo enjoys privileges at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, Specialty Hospital (Webster), Christus St. John Hospital and Bay Area Surgery Center.
